i'm Hannah and I'm Chelsea and this is

the podcast where we are two licensed

mental health therapists who

occasionally daydrink and read romance

novels of varying caliber nailed it oh

[ __ ] yeah that elevator pitch was That

was tight spot on yeah nailed it almost

like we've done over 80 episodes and I

shouldn't still be [ __ ] it up but

somehow somehow we do yeah i feel like

I'm like always trying to like improve

it slightly and I'm like it's it's fine

man it is you know it's so little of the

episode until we talk about it for 10

minutes yeah yeah yeah so all that said

hey everyone glad you're here

welcome welcome today we are reviewing

Messing with My Brother's Best Friends

by Sam Hall

um it is I'm assuming an Australian

author because Australian author because

the slang is like spot-on and very fun

there was some that I'm like I'm going

to start incorporating this more and

there was others that I'm like I

don't I don't

understand i'm not cool enough to

understand this sentence i was like what

are they trying to say um but the the

book is set in Australia where in

Australia

couldn't tell you doesn't matter

probably yeah in this economy it's all

the same you know is it i don't know i'm

not familiar enough with Australian

economics no I'm really not there's a

lot I'm not familiar with that I like

have questions about throughout this

book that really aren't relevant but

like to the point that I was

like I have some friends from Sydney i

was like I should reach out and clarify

and I was like no they would know surely

well I do remember uh I was in a wedding

like when I was in grad school and my uh

my friend was the bride and the groom

was from Australia and had a couple

friends fly over for the wedding and one

of them was asking me if I was a

vegetarian and he just goes "You a veg?"

And I'm like like it took me a second

and I was like "Yeah I I guess so i've

never been asked if I'm a vegetarian in

in such a manner in such a manner

but it does work and make sense so I

feel like that's where I was at with a

lot of slang in this book she's like

"Technically I get it." And my user

error yeah yeah leaves a lot of room

okay so we open with Kendall mhm um

Kendall is our main character and she is

desperately in need of a new place to

live because her two flatmates have

fallen in love and are kicking her out

so that you know their love doesn't have

to be restrained to their bedrooms

ah unfortunate

i'm like honestly that feels more

convenient to me to keep the roommate

yeah again in this economy Yes well and

so this is the problem is that in this

economy um Kendall is really struggling

to find a new suitable place to live she

has her best friend Barbie with her

barbie is a very fun friend like Barbie

you're like "Fuck yeah Barbs."

Like Barbie is like a an underwear

swimsuit model some some [ __ ] like this

i'm getting like new girl vibes right

now a little where she like desperately

needs a new place to live and her best

friend is a model and like you

know we can see if Van Connor and Gage

line up with Nick Schmidt and well are

you going to go coach or

I do have a soft spot for coach but I

mean probably Winston yeah Winston

really bloomed he did over the years he

did mhm um anyway back to these people

who really might not at all resemble cuz

until you made that connection I was

like "Oh yeah it's right there it's so

obvious." Um they've had several flop

viewings like and Barbie's gone with

Kindle to all of these viewings but like

one it's like literally like

a shed with no

like what word am I looking for roof no

it had a roof it had walls no insulation

oh yeah it's just like a shed with like

You were putting your arms over your

head so I was like it didn't have a roof

i was like it's in the

walls i don't know how you didn't get

that with my hand

motion you're like raising the roof over

there i was like I don't know what

you're saying to me

okay so it's not actually a livable

space is what we're saying yes and so

they are trying to figure out what to do

next and then Barbie sees this listing

come up where it's this like beautiful

house it has a pool but it's a little

bit further out in the suburbs uh and

it's they're like three dudes looking

for a female housemate and they're like

red flags man they're looking for a bang

made but like did you see that pool

though is kind of where we're bang for

the pool man in this economy yes so

Barbie calls and is like "Yep me and my

I'm calling for my friend Ken we're on

our way to come see

it." Uh we're going to switch to Van's

perspective now we switch between the

all four of them throughout the book um

Van is like the golden retriever of the

group and he keeps moving the decorative

pillows on the couch around cuz he's

like "Girls love decorative pillows." So

we got some decorative pillows for the

couch to try and get a female roommate

and then you like realized in his mind

he's like "Yeah and we thought that

girls are cleaner than guys cuz all of

our male roommates have been slobs so if

we put that we're three men looking for

a female roommate we like get someone

clean." It's

like well that's so

precious yes and so you're like "Oh

bless it." Um so the way that the girls

read the listing is not how it was

intended yes the guys are like "Oh we've

had really messy dude roommates." And

females they tend to smell nice look

nice maybe they'll keep things

nicer and Connor's like "Well someone is

like on the way to to come look at the

place."

Um when Kendall walks up the guys all

lose their [ __ ] because as the title

might suggest they know who Kendall is

right um they all had huge crushes on

her in high school but they were all

besties with her brother Finn but also

they were all [ __ ] to her oops like

a lot of like pranks that went too far

like Finn was a big instigator of a lot

of it but like

it wasn't like always a great upbringing

for Kendall so like at this point the

the guys don't even talk about her they

also know that like when they were in

high school Finn was like "Everyone keep

your [ __ ] eyes off my sister." That

that sort of energy um so the guys see

her walk up they're like "Holy [ __ ] holy

[ __ ] is this a mirage is this like

actually happening?" And Kindle walks up

and she's like "Oh [ __ ] no." Like "We

are not not doing this." And Van's like

"This is the only woman I've ever felt

anything for like in my entire life."

But also in this way where it's like

y'all seem to like like to share women

amongst you for the 10 years that it's

been since you've really seen Kindle for

people who have supposedly really been

pining for Kindle this whole time

i want to raise that note find that

fascinating in some of these romance

books where like what was that one um

that I did that steel bound by steel or

whatever where she lost her memory or

something it was like he was pining for

her all these years but also he like he

had his favorite sex worker and it's

like okay but that seems to be a thing

that happens in these books where

they're like she's the only woman I'll

ever love but the tits on her that other

one though like well and also they're

like at one point in this book they're

like you know and we thought like if we

ever found her again and I'm like

clearly she was nearby if she called on

your like she didn't

move across the country yeah i'm like I

don't you you really could have easily

found her at any point if

like you wanted to that badly like as

badly as you say you did

but we won't hold that against them we

will suspend that belief we will suspend

that belief

uh so they do eventually kind of like

coax her to come inside and they're like

okay well like want to see that pool

though like it isn't like a bad deal

sort of situation uh but Van's also like

I don't want to screw this up like I

need to gently get her inside and not

spook her is kind of like everybody be

cool yes yeah um also worth noting they

are all still besties with her brother

and all four guys including her brother

all own a construction company together

oh so this isn't like we're close

friends this is also my livelihood yes

um so there there is that aspect but

like as they're like trying to get her

inside she's like "How can I trust you

not to?" and just like starts naming

several like pranks of their and they're

like because we aren't high school

[ __ ] at like give us a a chance

it's it's been a long time and they even

say like we're not we're not high school

[ __ ] like trying to get a girl's

attention anymore she's like you were

trying to get my attention

what and and Barbie being a good

roommate well not roommate being a good

best friend who doesn't want a new

roommate herself which she's like I mean

yeah I don't really want you staying on

Alan and I's couch because we're really

loud when we

[ __ ] she's like I'm thinking of you but

also me

and so she's like just go inside just

look at the place like if you don't like

it we can leave it's not the end of the

world and Van is like if you don't like

it we'll remodel it for you like

whatever you want also okay have I do

have some questions about their house

because the room that they're renting to

her has an on suite okay the other three

bedrooms that they all have all share a

bathroom okay which like hear me a two

bathroom four bedroomedroom house is

like a very sufficient size but it's

also like explicitly like they built

this house I'm like so y'all built this

house to all share a bathroom and then

rent out the only bedroom with a private

bathroom so once suspending belief sure

I mean Okay

okay okay yeah you know just a couple of

questions that that popped up here and

there uh so when they finally get her in

the house Gage we switched to his point

of view and he's like I want to lock the

door he's like she can't leave if we

lock the door she can stay forever yes

um and Barbie starts asking questions

about like oh so like you guys have a

history and and Gage is just like yeah

we do like doesn't really want to talk

about it but he's also like we went too

hard in high school and like do just

like need to own up to that like love to

make it up to you love to like offer you

this place to live um they're like and

even just temporarily well you find

something else if you want wink wink uh

but like but I will lock the door you

can look for other places but you can

never Welcome to Hotel

California over here

yes and

so Kendall is like once again trying to

say no and Barbie's like "Hey can we go

talk in the hallway for a second?" And

Barbie being a brilliant bestie is like

"Okay what if you just think of this as

an opportunity for revenge?" Nice and a

free place to live and you can get some

revenge and so like Kendall's like "Okay

I I can work with with this." Um they

also move very quickly so like Connor's

immediately like "Cool you're going to

take the room let's drive over and get

your stuff we can move you in right

now." There will be no opportunity for

her to change her mind yes get her in

here yes 1,000% and so also um when we

had flipped to Connor's perspective here

we learned that like the guys had all

been planning one last prank in high

school but like not a real prank like

they were all finally going to like tell

her how they felt and they'd been like

planning this whole thing and then she

never showed

and they don't know what happened but

like Finn's like "Yeah she bounced like

she's not in town anymore." Uh h and

they haven't seen her since is kind of

like the guy's perspective of like yeah

we pranked her too hard but we all were

like waiting until she kind of graduated

high school then we were going to tell

her how we felt and then she disappeared

into the night mhm but we built this

house on the off chance that maybe we

run into her 10 years later when we post

an ad for a random flatmate you know

sure yeah

you know it's fine they certainly chose

to leave it to fate and it worked out

they said "Listen it is not my place the

universe will return to Well and

apparently they tried and like her

socials are like locked down tight and

so Okay okay cuz I was like Instagram is

a thing but I'm also like at no point

did you feel like you could follow her

right like it might have been locked

down old friends like friends

maybe like if she didn't accept it

that's different but you're like "Well

tried to stalk her she had it set on

private shucks better luck next time."

It's like

just send a follow request it's It's

really that easy it can be um so the

guys all

follow Kendall and Barbie and her car to

her old flat to get all of her stuff or

she drives a car that she calls Daisy

daisy is old daisy is janky we pray

every every day that we get in Daisy

that she will run uh is the sort of

energy and the guys are all looking at

this car and being like "We need to get

her out of this death trap she's not

safe in this death trap so we're not

okay if she's not okay like this whole

energy right from the jump right when

they haven't seen her in 10 years."

Uh

and well and like on the drive like

Barbie's like "Okay like I think this is

like a a good like idea and a good

plan." And K's like "They were probably

going to put like a banana in my

tailpipe." And Barbie's like "They want

to put their bananas in something i can

tell you that much." Like and is trying

to gently bring her around the

perspective that like those guys aren't

looking at you like they want to prank

their high school little sister

all I can think is I can't remember

which show it was it might have been the

Jeffersons but this old white guy that's

like the thing he would say i'm not

falling for no banana in my tailpipe

like that's all I can and I can't

remember where it's from and it's really

bothering me a lot anyway sorry people

should bring back that saying more

well it seems like Kendall doth protest

a a hair too much a hair too much also

not the same saying by any stretch uh

but when I worked crisis I remember

going to do an assessment in um in in an

ER and

the patient was like clearly malingering

like they were like very much in that

like I know what I need to say to kind

of like get a meal but like going

through all of the motions and going

through all the steps so I like go up to

the ER doctor who's like it it's the end

of his shift he's also been an ER doc

for like 20 years like you can't phase

him i'm like "What do you think?" And he

goes "I think my leg is wet."

And I go "What?" He goes "I think he's

pissing on my leg and telling me it's

raining that's so

good." And I was like "Okay um I'll put

that as my clinical disposition."

But it really is such a good line it is

a good line i like it a lot we should

bring that back too we should so when

they get to Kendall's flat and or old

flat they open it the roommates are just

like banging in the living room and the

guy's like "We need to get her the hell

out of here." So they're like "We will

start moving all of these boxes and also

give us your car keys you can drive our

van

well you can't drive this car anymore."

And she's like "Well I needed to go to

the liquor store cuz we were going to

get tequila to make margaritas to have

by the pool." They're like "We'll drive

you to the liquor store not a problem at

all we would love for you to have

margaritas by our pool possibly in a

bikini we would be more than willing to

support that plan

whatever you need do you want us to like

You don't like the the pool color okay

no problem we'll retile." Yes that is

their energy that well and at one point

like later in the book Van is like you

never if if you never want to cook again

you don't have to if you never want to

like clean again you don't have to and

I'm like no I

don't I don't know if that makes a

healthy relationship but I love the

sentiment that like all of you like care

that deeply about her that you want to

take care of her and do these things but

also

rein it in a little yeah just you

Mhm a little suffocating in the amount

of love that they are offering we're

hovering yeah so uh they take her to the

liquor store she tries to buy like

regular tequila connor like is like

putting that back grabbing you the good

top shelf tequila like just that energy

this whole time when they get back to

the house they're like "We'll make you

the drinks you can go out to the pool

we'll start building like your bed for

like we'll start assembling your your

furniture for you um when is she

trusting them to do all of

this or is there some like very like

weariness there's some weariness like

the entire time she's like what and then

they're going to do this like oh they

like they're going to put my bed

together so they can like short change

the sheets they they're like make one

leg slightly shorter like just is

anticipating those things um and Barbie

keeps trying to gently

offer a a reframe of the situation right

an alternative explanation perhaps yes

barbie's like "Let them help you if they

want to help you if if they want you to

sit by the pool and enjoy a margarita."

And then Barbie's like "Oh where's your

phone?" And she's like "It's in my

purse." And Barbie's like "Perfect."

like pushes her in the pool and so then

Barbie jumps in the pool she's like

"We're It's a pool day and your swimsuit

is in a box somewhere so we're making it

work." Yeah gage brings out the

margaritas pulls the same thing on him

she's like "Where's your phone?" He's

like "Oh it's charging."

Grabs him gets him in the pool so and

Gage

is thrilled by this turn of events bob's

the real one in all of this yeah yes um

and so she asks if he needs a drink and

so Barbie's like "Okay I'm going to go

like make another like picture of

margaritas." Sort of

energy and then like Kendall's like "Oh

like going to leave him here with me

like he'll probably dunk me like he like

used to." And then Gage is like "And we

also used to like play Marco Polo and

you would do flips off my shoulders."

And like

maybe there was a lot of positive and

like fun that had happened within all of

that as well and then you can do a flip

off his

shoulders it's just a very fun Gage is

like this is the best i don't even care

that her toes are digging into my

shoulder blades as I launch her into the

air she's touching me and

like it is really funny though to think

that like these guys just woke up this

morning living their life yeah

what a way for your day to end after all

that just saying

certainly a shift that was unexpected

for them very much so so like they're

having fun having their drinks kendall's

eventually like I'm going to go inside

like get a towel check on the guys

because my bed frame is from IKEA and

it's it's a little difficult to build

and the guys are having a hard time with

it and they're like "This is a janky ass

bed frame and she just needs a real one

and we can just make her a real bed and

it'll be so much better." Also they

called the bed frame the bed head

okay not Well I guess they called the

headboard the bed the bed head okay

which I just like better than what

i was like that yeah why haven't we been

calling it the bed head this whole time

i don't know but we can it's way more

fun than a headboard yeah so before we

came down here to record my husband sent

me multiple very long text messages as

you know he often does when I don't

respond right away which included the

fact that we've been talking about

getting a new mattress and which means a

new bed frame because we're getting a

larger one and so now I'm going to be

like I'm gonna let him know i'm gonna be

very picky about the bed head yes he's

going to have no idea what I'm saying

but I'll know mhm also this is by no

means a sponsored statement but we got a

Nectar mattress oh yeah um in the fall

and thoroughly enjoy it we got it on

like one of their like 50% off deals and

we got the um like adjustable bed frame

that goes under it but it can go on like

any bed frame

so we were able to put it on our

existing bed frame and now we have an

adjustable bed where we can raise both

like the headboard and the footboard and

it has lights underneath i'm sorry we

can raise the bed head and the footboard

and the foot bed i don't that one sounds

less the bed foot no

we'll work on that one and it has

like goes it has colored lights we can

turn on underneath i was like our

bedroom's not a [ __ ] rave like so

Matt would be the same way cuz he has

these lights that it doesn't even matter

and he'll be like "Look at this." And

I'm like "Why are you doing that?"

Like "This is not like a warehouse in

1998 i don't understand what's happening

right now." What are you

doing but he gets so excited about it

yeah well the other feature that it

comes with is it um has like a time set

that you can turn on like a vibration

setting oh which I'm like feels like an

old motel it does the magic

fingers how many quarters do you need

but I thoroughly

enra like an adjustable Yeah yes I did

it was absolutely worth it in my opinion

so because I was like if we're going to

do it I was like how often do we buy a

new bed like let's just actually like

get something

um we went to like a local mattress

store and you could tell that the kid

working there it was his first sales job

and he did not understand how to talk to

a couple that had a toddler with them

who was just trying to like run the

mattress store so he's like "Oh I have a

little mattress toy for him cool that'll

entertain my kid."

And we're like "Yeah we're just looking

today." And when he like finally

understood that like I was like "I don't

know [ __ ] about mattresses bro i'm

really just getting the lay of the land

right this is the first place I've come

into i'm not planning on dropping

several thousand in this moment." And as

soon as he was like "So you don't plan

on buying today?" No and I went "No."

And he goes "Okay." And he literally

just turned and walked back to his desk

i was like

"Oh well you did inspire a

sale online where I talked to no one."

That's good to know though we'll have to

check that out yes it I've enjoyed the

mattress

a you know a lot more than I anticipated

I would but I Well that's not true i

anticipated I would enjoy it a great

deal we were on like a handme-down

mattress and then had like a 2-in memory

foam mattress topper that we'd purchased

on Amazon mhm that like you always woke

up a little like it was like a bad

chiropractic adjustment yeah like a like

a little bit of a crick like something's

not quite Yeah you're like I Yeah every

morning you're like I guess I slept fine

enough yeah i mean technically it was

sleep I guess yeah yes so it was indeed

an upgrade and I would recommend it um

it is funny because when Kendall goes

and is like "Let me pull up the

instructions for this IKEA mattress bed

frame situation." Uh the guys quickly

are like "Oh okay now that we like

understand." And they're like putting it

together very quickly and her thought is

"Men are completely unaware of the

erotic appeal of masculine

competence." And I'm

like so I had the opposite reaction

where I was like you idiots just tried

to do that for how long and she just

pulled up instructions in 30 seconds on

the internet to their credit though if

you don't know what type of bed like

That's a good point that's a good point

i was like uh why are we impressed

here's some [ __ ] on the ground figure it

out versus like You're right you're

right you're right i didn't think about

them not knowing what kind of bed frame

it was okay but even once they build it

they're like "This is rickety and we

don't like it and we want to build her a

better

one." And then they're like "Okay we're

going to do a barbecue tonight

because we we can feed her and it'll be

great." And then uh Barbie's like "Oh

like I have plans but like Kendall would

love a real meal like save her from

making another cup of ramen." And the

guys are all a little confused by that

they're like "Kendall's always been a

great cook she's been like a great chef

like she was supposed to have a bakery

apprenticeship after high school what do

you Oh what do you mean and Kendall

starts to get like more and more anxious

and like got to leave and take Barbie

back to her

house so on the drive back Barbie's like

"What the [ __ ] is up like what?" Like

clearly there's a piece of this that I'm

missing um and so Kendall tells her that

she was supposed to have a bakery

apprenticehip and had been preparing all

of the food for it but in one of the

pranks

oh no all of the sugar had been switched

for salt but she was like moving so

quickly because she was so nervous that

she like didn't catch it so when she

served all of the food it all Oh yeah no

so they don't realize like they actually

like took something really serious from

her yes and so in their head they're

like "Yeah we like harmless prank." Yeah

like we like the pranks went a little

too far in high school but like we we've

always had crushes on her we always

wanted her long term and she's Yeah her

impression is very much like they ruined

my life yes yeah

and this is by no means [ __ ] on this

as a career or profession but so it's 10

years down the road and she's working

from a house at a bakery like she's

serving coffee serving pastries

like no one knows that like she has this

talent so So she like never got her

groove back basically yes and you can

also be in a really great groove and be

a barista i want to be abundantly clear

it's not [ __ ] on the profession no

not at all that's not where she wants to

be yes just kind of like "No you were

supposed to be in in the back not in the

the front." Like "What what happened

here Kendall?" And has just Yeah really

never like let herself

dream yeah beyond that

um at Barbie and Allen's they end up

brainstorming some pranks and because

Barbie's like "Okay I like I get it

now." Yes absolutely let's ruin some

days yes so switching to Van's

perspective Van is waiting up for

Kendall and when she finally gets back

uh she's like "Were you waiting up?" And

he's like "You didn't have a key." is

kind of the thought but as he's waiting

for her he's like sitting there

ruminating on like the what what did

they mean she doesn't know how to make

like he's like "I still daydream about

these different dishes that she made

over time." Um and this is where they

actually give her the tour of their

bathroom because he's like "I want to

show you where everything is like when

she gets back." And he's like "Okay I

want to make sure that like we have the

towels here and this there this that and

the other." I was like that's when I

went "They only have two bathrooms they

didn't build themselves on suite they

built their own house and didn't build

themselves bathrooms." And I was like

"Is that an Australian thing?" And

that's where I was like "That's a weird

question to reach out to and be like do

you all are you like two toilets is

sufficient?" Yeah can you walk me

through your general like floor plans

like what's expected like Yeah cuz I'm

like Especially if you're building your

dream house right right you didn't build

yourself a like cuz each guy has their

own bedroom but they didn't build

themselves on

suite and I'm really stuck on this i see

it it's troubling you when I'm thinking

like my house is three bed two bath but

it makes sense because I didn't build it

for myself and I'm not living with three

grown men who would also maybe want

their own space yeah well I think I'm

confused as to maybe like they built

this house to be their like I guess well

I guess they were waiting for Kendall

you know then they were like we'll all

move into the master at some point sure

but until then we'll all share one

bathroom

we haven't earned the

[Laughter]

master that's the final boss is the

master

bedroom so Kendall's like "Okay thanks

i'm going to like shower and go to bed."

So uh when she goes into the bathroom

she unscrews the shower head and puts a

beef stock cube up in it um like and Van

has no idea this is happening he's just

so excited that like he like got to like

be close to Kendall that as soon as this

is done he like goes into his bedroom

and like jerks off and like comes

immediately and I was like and she's in

there like pulling pranks is like the

dichotomy of what's happening in this

so she also lays out her clothes for the

next morning cuz she's like got to be

ready to move when this prank hits with

a swiftness yes once again all three men

are sharing it more it's fine it's just

not

practical um especially if it was the

three of them in the house and there was

nobody in the master like wouldn't never

mind okay right yeah yeah i'm I'm going

to stay too fixated on that well and so

when she lays out all of the clothes

she's like "Okay I'm ready to go in the

morning." She goes "I'll throw on socks

undies bra pants shirt and my question

to you Hannah." Nope yep thank you oh my

gosh i didn't even have to ask the

question socks last i was like "Socks

first what?" Literally unless I'm

wearing socks that are going to go under

my pants because I'm wearing boots

mhm socks

last and even sometimes I'm tucking the

jean into the sock to go in the boot yes

yes yeah i I highlighted it it's the

only thing I highlighted in this entire

book and I was like "Socks

first." That is insane is that

Australian how do you get dressed like

did y'all grow up on a different order

than us like right like the the toilet

water goes the opposite direction do you

also get dressed in the opposite

direction get dressed in the opposite

i know the US is no one's favorite right

now but we do have some burning

questions that quite frankly might bring

some levity to all the

conversations in the world yeah

uh oh thank God that you already I like

like as soon as you said she sucks I was

like

what i got stuck on it when I read it

and I was like I can't move beyond

this uh so that morning she hears a

scream and it's what the [ __ ] and it's

Connor is the one she got like why do

you smell like bonox um which I had to

look up is that some kind of I think

it's like an Australian like beef stock

that you can buy in like a jar or

something of that capacity but Van and

Gage can give credit where credit is due

and they're like that is a solid prank

and she's like bye y'all takes off i'm

like "Good for you have a great day

everybody." Yes so she's at work at the

bakery and lunchtime comes around and

suddenly a big tradey group comes in and

she's like "What the [ __ ] how did they

find me what are they doing here?" So

they brought their whole crew to her

bakery for lunch which they're not

[ __ ] like no one like but she's like

"How did you find me?" And they're like

"Well like one of your work shirts was

in your room so we saw the name of" And

she was like "What were you doing in my

room were you pranking me?" Putting your

bed together yes like very much like

that energy we were unpacking your stuff

and putting your furniture together and

we were just loving you and happened to

see a shirt from where you work i was

just trying to smell you

like that's what I'm imagining is Van

going in and being like

Yeah that is

Vans Van's energy uh but the guys are

all like "Oh [ __ ] like this is your your

new roommate you didn't tell us how hot

she was great prank." And like but

they're all like "Hey how you doing?"

And Gage is like "If you keep talking to

her I will cut you." Like hands the [ __ ]

off you go sit down we will bring you

your coffee and lunch like you can find

new employment get away from her yes and

but the guys are also like "Give us your

car keys like we're we're trading you

keys we want to get your car looked at."

And like one of them I forget who but

one of them is like "Yeah I can't even

believe like Finn let you drive that."

And she she's like "Bold of you to

assume my brother knows anything about

me." And they're like "Oh okay." So like

so I had a question about that too

though right because if they own a

business with her brother and they've

been best friends since high school

wouldn't they have seen her like

wouldn't there have been a birthday

party where everybody was there or a

holiday or Well and I feel like one of

at some point there's like a passive

comment made where uh one of the guys is

like "I was always looking for her at

all of the events and functions and was

like always really bummed when she never

turned up." So it seems like maybe

Kendall had been strategically

avoiding the the group functions and

maybe only going to the family specific

functions but because Finn was the

instigator of a lot of the the pranks

and such even their like adult

relationship now is not great a pretty

distant one in that regard

um but she does finally relent and hand

over her car keys and which is very kind

of them uh when the guys get back to

work Finn is coming back as well just

right as uh some of the guys who were

looking at her car to tell them what was

wrong with it are coming up and they're

like "Well car is fucked." And one of

the guys is like "Just like your new

room is going to be right." Like

"Hey." And they're like "Shut the [ __ ]

up shut the [ __ ] up." And Finn's like

"Oh like new room." Hi new roommate yes

and they're they're like "Yeah redhead

big tits."

And then like they're like what was her

name starts with a K and he's like like

my sister

Kendall and but all of the guys and this

is something I actually really

appreciated about this book is the guys

are like

Yeah not like your sister it is your

sister it is your actual sister yeah

yeah and are just like she is she's now

living in our house she is she's the new

roommate and Finn tries to be like what

the [ __ ] like keep your hands off my

dare you whatever well and then all of

the guys are like "So did you hear about

all of the places she was touring to

live that?" Like one was a literal drug

house like and Finn's like "Oh maybe I

should cool it." Yeah like maybe I

didn't know all those things like he's

still by no means happy about it but the

guys are like "As long as Kendall is

living in our house we are going to make

sure that she she's safe." Yeah that

she's safe that she's happy that like

but they're also like we don't know why

she left suddenly and we're going to

figure it out like because something

happened you knew that like we'd liked

her

but then the guy's like "Okay now that

we've had that confrontation with Finn

we should all leave the the job site

early to run errands for her let's get

her car fixed let's work on building her

that bed head let's make her dinner

that's so nice it really but it is also

weirdly refreshing that like the secret

from the brother is not a plot point

because I feel like that's like the

automatic plot point in a lot of these

books so that's kind of nice i felt the

exact same way i was like "Oh like I

thought I knew where it was going in

that sentence and then I was like oh we

really No we just owned it."

Huh how nice is that

how refreshing thanks

um Kendall calls Barbie on her drive

home and is like "The guys are being

weird." And Barbie's like "Okay what are

they doing?" And she's like "Well they

like they came into the bakery and they

took my car keys

and and like she's just naming all of

the nice things that they've been

doing." She's like "I don't trust it."

And Barbie is like "You are a lucky

bitch." Yeah barbie's like "Oh honey oh

babe."

Like "Maybe let's view some alternative

perspectives here." And so when Kendall

gets home she's like "What is that

burning smell?" And there's just like

meat sauce burning on the stove and

she's like "I'm just going to turn that

heat down i'm not I'm going to let them

do their thing but like going to help

with that and she goes out and like Gage

is working on her car and the other guys

are building her the bed frame

and they're like "You won't cuz she

tries to give them their keys back and

they're like "You won't have your car

back for a while it it's going to needed

some attention." Yes and so she tells

them that their sauce is burning and

Gage is like "What okay I thought it was

fine it's a bolognese sauce is just like

meat garlic and tomato right like and

they're like

"Oh not a good one." Right i mean

technically on a very technical level

yes

uh why it never tastes how you want it

to

there are a lot of reasons so like

Kendall ends up helping Gage a little

and but he goes to like stir the sauce

and she's like "No no no don't scrape

the burnt bits off the bottom and mix it

into just just leave the burnt bits

burnt on the bottom don't mix it

in but is helping him make the sauce and

it's a very sweet moment and but she's

like trying to teach him she's like

"Okay so like you want to sweat the

vegetables and so like you want the

carrot to soften and the onion to soften

and all that." Then he's like "Oh yeah

girls don't really want to talk about

carrot softening in the kitchen am I

right?" like just like trying to make a

joke that Yeah doesn't really land and

Kendall's like "Oh a lot of girls coming

through here."

Good to know as your roommate yeah like

have fun with your thoughts i'm going to

like go work on unpacking now and Gage

is like "No [ __ ] that's not That's not

what I meant that wasn't what I meant

that wasn't how I wanted this to go."

So as she's unpacking uh she starts

going through like all of her stuff but

it's also kind of like she's going down

memory lane um and is like thinking

about the baking interview and um like

Connor's dad was actually the one who

set it up cuz he knew the owner of the

bakery mhm cuz all of the families lived

on the same street um and so she's just

kind of ruminating on how Finn came in

as she was having like a full-blown

meltdown and just like throwing the food

on the ground because she realized what

had happened and then Finn was like

"Yeah so sorry that they pranked you

yep your eyes are catching that you

likely already understood where this was

going i got it." But then is also kind

of like she's like "I just want to like

get the [ __ ] out of here." and and he's

like "Yeah like do you have a friend you

can go stay with for a little while and

just like decompress and reset?" Then

like from there he like kind of helped

her find a place to like rent on a more

long-term basis and then the rest has

been history

yeah so that's kind of what she's been

ruminating on and then Van knocks on her

door and is like "Do you want to come

join us for dinner?"

We have we have dinner you want to eat

it

we Gage makes too much pasta so there's

like plenty if you want some i don't

know

maybe bless his sweet little golden

retriever heart

um they have a pleasant enough meal but

after the meal they end up all kind of

getting in like a towel whipping fight

which is like a very funny and cute

moment like Connor is trying to like

protect Kendall but then like she's like

still snapping him with towels and it's

just like ends up dissolving into this

like cute moment and while all of the

guys are like her walls are coming down

we're having fun we're getting somewhere

her phone rings and it's someone and

they just hear her be like "Oh yeah I

know i'm still very interested yeah I

can come see the place on Saturday." And

so the guys like it like very much

takes the wind out of them a little bit

yes

um and then the guys are Van's phone

alarm goes off like "Oh [ __ ] we all

forgot that we had footie practice." So

they are all about to leave and Connor

goes and knocks on Kendall's door and is

like "Hey can we talk later tonight?"

like want to like saying that like they

want her to stay and that like and she's

like yeah if I'm awake and he's like

okay so like the the guys are like this

is going to be our our chance right this

is the opportunity we've been waiting

for yes

um while they're at footie practice

she's implementing her next prank where

she has turned off the fan then

unscrewed the light bulbs in Van's room

and then put pink glitter powder on all

of his fan

blades which is also excellent a good

prank but okay if I Here's the thing i

don't want either of those pranks to

happen to me no mm-m i would prefer the

bonox or like the the beast stock i'm

like 100% You're never getting rid of

that glitter nope it'll be with you for

life yeah i'm like a glitter prank is

going to be a really hard cell for me

i did once put glitter all over an

ex-boyfriend's driveway so that when he

had to walk into his house he just

tracked it in over and over

again okay I'm a fan of that

one cuz he worked like a late shift so

he wasn't going to be able to see it in

the dark

so I like lined the path to the

door going back to New Girl then now I

just keep thinking of Winston not

understanding the right level of pranks

it was either like always way too much

or way too

little

yes what if we poured some water near

their

shoe no i do feel good about your your

glitter prank mhm maybe it's the bedroom

like on fan blit like cuz you that cuz

that's

everywhere in your bed and glitter is

scratchy

like and in my head I'm like okay well

like on tile floors it's still not great

but I feel like I can control a little

bit easier to clean up yeah no but that

prank an ex that's like the right level

right like cuz I also knew it was going

to get in his car when he walked back in

the morning like you know I know you

just said cuz I also knew it was going

to get in his car but you said it very

quickly and I heard you say and I also

knew I was going to get in his car i'm

like "No Hannah that is not the same

level." And then I was like "Wait wait

wait the glitter that's different." No

popping up in the backseat of somebody's

vehicle is not a prank when I was like

that's a felony right i was like great

prank with the glitter you're like yeah

and then I was just waiting in his car

i'm like oh god oh god i take it back no

no

oh that one that one would have been

rough yeah all over the comforter and

the carpet and like

and

yeah glitter on fan blades is that's not

a prank for someone I don't think you

any glitter prank is a prank for someone

you like no but that's for someone that

you actively hate like that is for

active hatred

yeah

that if he's wondering where they stand

in their relationship right now I don't

think she's forgiven you yet um at

footie practice Finn is there on the

team and is like being a dick initially

right uh but the guys are all like "We

love your sister." And he's like "Wait

this is love you love her?" They're like

"Yes you idiot like we never meant to

hurt her we always wanted her and Finn's

like "Well okay maybe if if you're not

just trying to like run train on my

sister I feel better about this."

Which is valid right

so you know what even if they did want

to run train Finn you don't It's not

your business man if you didn't know

where your sister was working or what

car she was driving or where she if you

knew none of the basic facts about your

sister for the last decade she could

have been running train with any number

of people you can run train all you

want don't let anyone tell you you have

to run less train than you currently are

[Laughter]

so the guys on the way home are all

buying like little gifts they buy like

chocolate and flowers and like even like

Gage gets a little like teddy bear for

her um and she is dead asleep when they

get home which is not how they were

hoping that would go right that said her

prank executed flawlessly i'm sure i

mean that's good it's genius it's

terrible but it's genius diabolical

that's the word well and so Van when

they all got back and she was asleep

he's like "Okay no problem i'm just

going to like wake up early like we'll

all get up early in the morning we'll

make her breakfast we'll like make it a

morning thing instead." So when he gets

up he's like frantically like trying to

he's like "I need to make her breakfast

before she has to get to work." and like

isn't slowing down enough to realize

he's covered in glitter until the until

Gage and like Connor can't stop laughing

and they're calling him like sparkle

tits sure yes um Kendall walks out joins

them in the laughter and once again

bolts and just like takes off sucks to

suck see you later right so Connor's

like "All right we need to be a little

savvier about this." And like She's

avoiding us a little bit yeah so how do

we get a little air time with her so

Connor calls the bakery she works at and

is like "Hey I need to place like a a

big last minute lunch order and he's

like "I'll pay d like I'll pay double

whatever it is like that's not a problem

at all." So once again they like show up

during her

workday uh and the guys ask they're like

"Can we talk to you this evening?"

and she's like "We would like to

schedule time to have a conversation."

And once again she's like "Yeah sure."

with no intention of of any follow

through on this uh but she does hear

when like the the bakery owner Chris is

helping like get the food to Connor and

he's like "Yeah give more notice next

time and you won't have to pay double."

And like she's kind of she's like "Why?"

She's like "Normally he offers a

discount when like people place like

bulk orders." And yeah so she's like "He

paid double." And she's like "Our food

isn't that good." Like "Our food is mid

at best." Like oh huh

maybe

maybe it was thoughtful who could have

been maybe they're not out to get you

yeah maybe they're not luring you

somewhere

like you're living with these people

babe like if they really wanted to do

something they would have done it yes

like at any point and but she you know I

understand the vigilance with which

she's like going into this situation she

said "I will not be lulled into a false

sense of security

fool me once fool me twice fool me all

of high school." Sure i'm a grown-up now

[ __ ] like that is I ain't falling for

no banana i'm a tailpipe yes uh so

Kendall when she gets back from work

she's like gets home before all of the

guys would and she plans on just like

showering and like rushing back out but

Gage is already there because Gage he's

got her number yeah and all of them do

in different ways yeah uh but Gage

before she got there was lining up lots

of uh different food fight supplies so

like lining up condiments and like

setting up like flower bombs and just

like laying it all out in the

kitchen he said "We're going to [ __ ] it

up." And he's like "Okay like we need to

have a big conversation if that's how we

need to have it we're we'll do it." Yeah

we'll do it um so in that conversation

he's telling her like that he doesn't

want her to move out that he wants her

to stay beyond Saturday when she goes to

look at a new place uh but he also like

he's like "I I love you." And she's like

"The

what what?" As soon as he says he loves

her she throws a flower bomb at his face

and she's like "Fuck this." Absolutely

not she said

no no and Gage is undeterred by this

he's like "I still love you."

Yeah well and he's like she's upset

she's like "Why are you saying these

things?" And so he goes to like try and

comfort her and he's like "Baby." And

she's like "What do not call me baby."

Yeah and so throws like another flower

bomb so then it's just like him calling

her different terms of endearment and

her throwing food at him he's like

"Darling." She's like "Shut the fuck."

throws the next like calls her

sweetheart she pours honey on his head

oh but throughout this she keeps getting

more and more upset because part of the

thing for her is she's like I can throw

all of this food and he's like yeah get

it out like do what you need and she's

like and then he can go and just like

take a shower and his life continues

right they destroyed my life right so

now you're telling me you love me after

all these years like "Please go [ __ ]

yourself." Yes well and she's like "You

don't get to call me anything at all you

don't get to have any of these

nicknames." And he's like "I know we

[ __ ] up." And she goes "I was going to

be a baker." And he's like "What does

that have to do with the Huh what are

you talking about?"

And so she tells him about the the salt

swap and he's like "Kendall on God that

was not us wasn't me." Yeah yeah and

he's like "We" and he goes "I know it

wasn't me or the other guys because we

loved your food we didn't want to mess

anything up with your food we wanted you

to get that apprentice ship and also

your mother had made it explicitly clear

that if we messed with your baking and

cooking or her pantry that we were no

longer invited to the house so like

that was not us." Yeah that's a line

that was our line yeah like there was a

clear boundary and I know beyond a

shadow of a doubt none of us would have

would have gone beyond that right and

Kendall's like I need to make a phone

call and like calls your brother and

he's like call me right [ __ ] now like

we need to talk Mhm uh but then also as

as Kendall's leaving this voicemail and

hanging up she's realizing the mess that

she's made and just like she's she's

like "I just poured honey all over

Gage." She's like "I've just decimated

their kitchen."

Whoopsie um she offers to help clean

Gage up and they're like "Well we both

need showers at this point may as well

save some water." It sure Yeah right it

escalates very quickly in the shower but

also she like puts shampoo in his hair

and is washing his hair but like it's

while he's eating her out she's washing

his

hair

efficient i

guess logistically

speaking I don't think I would be able

to enjoy that because I would be

worrying about getting soap in in

Vance's eyes i was just thinking that

like how is he protecting his eyes yeah

and like this and like what position are

we in well and also I imagine a lot I

imagine the shampoo would be going down

his face into your bits yeah and into

his mouth into his mouth yeah so then

you're getting shampoo in your coot yeah

not good and it's probably not even good

shampoo it's like a five in one that

some single man uses yes right i'm like

I Okay I get it i get why we we wrote it

that way it's sexy in theory

but it is one of those that is not sexy

in practice I don't think yeah like

glitter

it really is

they never leave you they don't and

they're so scratchy

yeah so from the shower where he was

eating her out they are now clean enough

that they make their way to the bedroom

get home and are like "Okay like we got

to she's going to be here tonight so we

got to figure out the dinner tonight."

and are like then hearing kitchen yeah

hearing sounds like what happened to our

kitchen but then they kind of peek

around the corner and they're like "Oh

they [ __ ] and they're just kind of

into watching it." Yeah so with a little

bit of like a a little voyeristic energy

there they both come in their pants

as Kendall and Gage reach completion

maybe like they it didn't like all

orgasm together but

like jizz in my pants open the window

and I feel the breeze like

Well I'm like were they touching

themselves or were they It was like a

spontaneous orgasm

i read it more as spontaneous orgasm but

they could have had their hand down

their their pants i really hope that

scene

banging on the door and Finn is at the

guy's house and I was like "Where's my

Kendall you said you wanted to talk

everything okay?" Um and she confronts

him about the salt prank she throws on

one of Gage's shirts first for the

record uh

but confronts him about the salt prank

he owns it like it's not a it's not a

pretty scene by any stretch but like he

owns up to it owns that he like blamed

the guys and like sent her away on

purpose yes well because he's like "No

it was like always supposed to be the

four of us." Like "Y'all would have

like the odd man out." And they were

like "What a little bitch." Well and I

feel like I forget which one i think it

might have been Gage but he's like "We

are all still together you [ __ ]

muppet." And he's like "We own a goddamn

business together." like like which we

aren't going to now because we don't

trust you because you intentionally kept

Kendall away from us when you knew how

all of us felt about her right well and

he ruined her life let her believe that

the guys did that when if he had owned

it potentially she could have tried

again with that bakery owner or Yeah but

she was so hurt and upset

yeah yeah yeah finn's a little [ __ ]

yeah

1,000% um Connor punches him in the face

good just sucker punches him and then is

like "We're buying you out of the

business." Like

now you will be cut out all of those

things you feared are coming to fruition

because of your own actions yeah because

you did this yes you are an active

participant in your current

unhappiness get it through your [ __ ]

head mhm

um I had a patient a while ago who was

like "Well I just feel like I'm at the

end of my rope." Talking about why he

wouldn't use any of the skills that we

were talking about so that he could feel

better and why he was refusing

medication and stuff and so finally he

was when he kept saying "I'm just at the

end of my rope." I was like "Dude I'm

actively offering you rope and you're

choosing not to take it so if you're at

the end of the rope that you have that

is your choice." I was like I cannot do

this with you like oh my god but yeah

and that is the sign of a seasoned

therapist versus a new therapist yeah

he's like well let's look at your

toolbox of coping skills what are the

barriers

you you muppet you're your own barrier

you are the barrier god damn it Finn

like you are the barrier for everybody

well and also like Finn is married and

has two kids so like this impacts a lot

like a lot of people here like you it

never had to cuz well that was my

actually my initial thought i was like

was Finn in the master bedroom initially

why wasn't Finn living all this closed

because Finn is married i did have that

question of like Finn is the odd man out

but why yeah but that makes sense but

then I'm also like was Finn secretly in

love with them no he just was like I

don't want my besties to be friends with

other people well I think back in the

day they all might have enjoyed sharing

girls and you can't share your sister

true accurate yeah i I mean Australia

check me if I'm wrong on that but I

think I feel pretty confident in that

statement now I don't know if like

regionally there's a place in Australia

where they're like "Oh yeah." You know

kind of like people talk about Alabama

Alabama and other southern states just

really the South in general people have

a lot of thoughts and

you know several are warranted as people

who live in the

south i don't I don't blame people for

some of those thoughts yeah I get it

yeah so I don't know if there's a

section a region in Australia where

people are like "Oh well if you're gonna

be a brother [ __ ] you're probably

gonna be

here."

So somebody yesterday at lunch we were

talking about something and they said

the term brother cousin for some reason

it was in context but we all just

stopped and we were like "Brother

cousin?" And she goes "Well okay so I

went to high school with this guy and I

was like "What the fuck?" And she like

"Oh [ __ ] of this whole thing." And I was

like "I wasn't ready to hear about the

logistics of an actual brother cousin."

No you're like "Oh you're like I did

have questions but questions I didn't

necessarily want answers to i was good

with no backstory i was really

comfortable without answers

i feel like when I was younger I wanted

all the answers and the older I get the

more I'm like I'll let those questions

linger which is also the sign of a

seasoned clinician

yeah curiosity has been beaten right out

of me

but when you said that all I thought of

was the Tik Toks where people are like

"My Caucasian curiosity got the best of

me why are white people always the ones

checking for that sound in the woods

everyone else is smart enough not

to." I was like "Oh damn." Mhm

mhm and the older I get the less willing

I am to check the sound in the woods yep

agreed yeah when I was younger I was the

one to lead the charge

so Finn leaves after this whole debacle

right and they are like well we should

probably clean the kitchen yes but then

like Kendall is kissing Van and then

Connor reminds Van that it's his turn to

cook dinner

so Van turns to start cooking dinner but

then is like "Kendall Connor's hungry

not for food." Hey so like Connor starts

like eating out Kendall while Van starts

cooking like a foot away i guess Gage is

still cleaning ostensibly i'm not 1,000%

sure um but then like right before like

Connor's about to eat her out she's like

"I was just with Gage." And he's like

"Three men one woman like can't be

bothered by a cream pie you know?" I'm

like "Yeah you've definitely shared some

women before." If that's where we're

starting is I was going to say I think

you can be bothered but if you're not

that's cool like for your long-term

dynamic it's going to be a lot better

for you if you're not and if you are

bothered by a cream pie

that is your prerogative you're allowed

to be we don't yuck others yum just as

we don't No no i was gonna reverse it

and then I changed my mind yum other

people's yuck yeah i was like I'm gonna

Hannah I don't know what it is but the

saying we don't yuck other people's yum

makes me viscerally angry and I don't

like there's something about it not

angry annoyed like I feel myself getting

annoyed at that saying and I know like

keep people keep saying it don't stop on

my account by any stretch i'm like what

what is it about it that annoys me i

can't say but it

like I certainly prefer kink shame but

kink shame doesn't always feel like it

fits with things so but no I do get it

cuz it is kind of dumb i would just

rather go probably with like we listen

whatever the alarm the smoke alarm

starts blaring oh yeah i was going to

say are we burning dinner again because

like a shower." And they're like "It'd

like like Connor sticks his finger in

her and then she sucks the finger that

was just inside her but I'm like no if I

needed to shower because I had three

men's come all over

don't I would be too over stiff like I

don't want you keep your hands away from

they're tired

try again tomorrow morning

and also this is a new dynamic there's a

difference when you're like in the

beginning of something I think oh gosh

house in the morning and Van catches her

and kind of like "Oh I was making you

breakfast well how about a coffee if you

don't want breakfast?" And is just

trying to be like "Hey like I I get that

you feel weird yeah you feel weird

there's a big dynamic shift from

yesterday let's like support each other

through it we can acknowledge it yes uh

so he gets her to stay and have

breakfast which is just kind of sweet uh

when Kendall gets to work the owner

needs her help

because a woman tried like wanted to

change a big order for a birthday party

last minute and he's like "Fuck like I I

need help in the back." But also

conveniently Barbie has shown up to like

yell at Kendall because when Kendall was

on her way home yesterday before she

ended up [ __ ] Gage and that whole

food fight and the coming to to Jesus

moment of it all she'd been planning on

sneaking out to go hang out with Barbie

and then really just forgot a little bit

yeah some some other things came up

a few things came up repeatedly hey yeah

at least if you were Gage in that

situation right

um Barbie's like not mad cuz she's like

"You got [ __ ] down by three dicks

let's

celebrate." And Kendall's like "I am at

my place of

employment." I would love to do that at

a later date yes and so Barbie's like "I

can work the front while you go help in

the back." And so uh when Kendall goes

in the back Chris the bakery owner

quickly realizes that she has a little

bit more skill and talent than

initially anticipated because she hasn't

said [ __ ] for all of the years that

she's worked at this bakery right um but

he's like "Oh would you be interested in

an apprenticeship?" He's like "Because I

can always find someone to work the

front but like I if this is of interest

like I would absolutely love to like

take you on as an apprentice." Yeah and

she's like "I would actually love to

consider that." So like a very exciting

She's now letting herself kind of like

dream bigger than she had been when Yeah

what a bummer that like it took 10 years

and learning that your brother was the

one behind all of it for you to feel

safe enough to Yeah push yourself out

there again and like respectfully barely

putting yourself out like Yeah the the

um if the universe had not opened this

door right how much longer

um so after Chris offers her the

apprenticeship she ends up going back to

Barbies to celebrate and so uh we also

meet Allan at this point maybe we met

him earlier no we met him earlier

whatever i like Allan Barbie's boyfriend

he's a He's like a He looks like an

unassuming finance bro but is like

really sweet and fun and so like when

Barbie's like "We're celebrating that

like Kendall got [ __ ] down by three

guys." Like Alan's like "Hey you good?"

Like "Are you okay?" Yeah like I I know

are we actually celebrating yeah like I

know Barbie can get excited and like I

don't want to take that from her but

like are you okay yes like very kind of

like self-appointed big brother and I

was going to say like an actual big

brother yes

looking at you Finn

hole i don't know i haven't thought of

that phrase in years but it just came to

mind for Finn just now

i feel like Dill Hole is like a step

below douche nozzle yes yes like I don't

know why these connect in my head but

they do it's like the levels of

it's not up there but I do think it's

underutilized so I do also want to

utilize Muppet more yes i've been I've

been going with mouth breather for a

while

uh but when I was pregnant I was a mouth

breather like and like everything was

just stuffy all the time yeah

and I fell asleep in a movie theater and

like my the people I was with my husband

and some of our dear friends and they

were like "Oh no it just sounded like

someone was very heavily breathing."

Like it wasn't a snore but

like people were definitely looking

around being like "Someone is heavily

breathing." And I was like "I was very

pregnant i don't know what you want from

me my bad i'm doing my best." Right so

the guys are all like very excited about

this change in dynamic and so they want

to do something really special for

Kendall so they've actually called

Kendall's mom to get the recipe for the

shepherd's pie the exact one that like

Kendall always wanted for her birthday

and so all three of them are like "Okay

we like got to get this recipe right we

can't [ __ ] it up." So they like spend

all this time making it setting the

table getting everything ready kendall

doesn't come home right cuz she's at

Barbies yes and like doesn't know that

like Right this but like Van like tries

to text her at some point and like

doesn't like get a response and so like

the guys all kind of like go to bed

right bummed out i guess they're like

this is happening again yeah um so Van

stays up again and is like waiting for

her and when she walks in and like sees

everything she's like "Oh I'm so like I

didn't know." And he's like "You don't

owe us anything like you don't have to

like Yeah tell us every time you go

anywhere but also like if you could

reply when we check to make sure you're

okay

like that would would mean a lot but he

also says he's like I recognize that

like this probably feels like it's

moving very fast for you but like it

doesn't feel that way to us like for us

it feels like it's moving really slow

because all we want to do is like love

you and care about you and like be with

you yeah um and then his like stomach

grumbles and she's like "Let's heat up

some of the dinner that let's maybe

eat." Yeah cuz she's like "Did you guys

not eat?" And he's like "We had some

toast and a beer instead." Like

well that's pitiful yes you could have

eaten

right and so she does feel really bad

about it

um and then I don't know the night

progresses from there things start

heating up they start like they go to

the bedroom gage and Connor are are

already asleep in that bed they like

didn't go to their rooms for the night

um

and as things are heating up between Van

and Kendall like he's like "Tell me like

you were thinking of me in high school

when I was like thinking of you." And

she's like "I can't i hated you." And

she's like "But I wanted you as much as

like she's like you were you were still

very pretty to look at you guys were

also just like my tormentors like it

wasn't it wasn't the same as like what

you had built in your head but you were

still hot yeah um then as this is going

Gage and Connor end up waking up because

that makes sense they end up jumping in

once again everyone gets an orgasm great

and then they ask Kendall to be their

girlfriend and she's like "Yeah." So at

this point we are now a living Yeah

relationship i mean I would like I would

call this their solidifying [ __ ] in the

book like hey like

we are now taking this seriously as a

relationship moving forward like this

isn't heat of the moment hooking up this

is more intentional and like we've made

our intentions very clear do you want us

right right right like if you don't

speak now or forever because Gage will

lock the doors

he really wants to he really does he

does uh the next morning Kendall ends up

getting up early and making all of the

guys breakfast as an apology um and they

declare it yes day and they're like

"Okay we're going to have like a big fun

like yes day." And then she's like "Yes

to anything except anal." And then she's

like because and she looks at Gage and

is like your [ __ ] is way too big i would

end up in the

ER and Van is like see I knew having a

[ __ ] that big had some downsides i knew

there were

drawbacks and truly how many times have

we talked about boyfriend dick versus

husband dick yes yeah

having that large of a dick in a reverse

harm does have some drawbacks things

bring the kids over to the house after I

get off work and they can they can play

in the pool?" So they're playing the the

kids are playing in the pool kendall and

Cheryl are like having a conversation

where Kendall's explaining like "We got

to go back a long ways you you need some

history to to really get this." Um but

it's also kind of sweet and healing

because while the kids are playing they

kind of have that like kids bickering

sibling dynamic and all of the guys are

like gently correcting it and like the

brother's like mean to his sister and

he's like "She's a girl." And they're

like "Yeah girls are awesome your mom's

a girl aunt Kendall's a girl." Like and

Kendall's like "Oh this is healing parts

of my heart that I did not know needed

healing." Mhm which is just kind of a

sweet thing but then Cheryl's also like

"Yeah there's a barbecue uh that I think

Van's parents are hosting that weekend

because Kendall's parents were going to

be in town." So she's like "Everyone's

going to be invited everyone's going to

be at the barbecue the guys will hear

about it at some point but just like I

know shit's weird between you you and

your brother just wanted it on your

radar feel free to come." So they decide

they're going to go to the family

barbecue everyone is like all of the

families are there except Connor's

parents they weren't really invited

because they're they've always been like

the rich people up the hill and like

kind of like set apart kind of yes um

a little snobby and [ __ ] in that

regard

kendall's real nervous that they're all

showing up together for obvious reasons

right and the guys are like "This is

great we love you nothing can go wrong

we are on the peak of this mountain

right and I'm like "Oh y'all." Right it

doesn't really work like that it's like

the parents are all kind of starting to

like put it together here yeah and

Kendall's dad is like "What are y'all

getting up to with my daughter?" And

Kendall's mom is like "Probably the same

thing we were all getting up to with

those keys parties in the 80s jesus

Christ." And then Gage's mom is like "It

was a different time." or like whoever's

mom and I was like "Oh my god." So y'all

were all [ __ ] in the

80s

okay oh my god uh and it's not really

going super well right but then it goes

even worse because apparently Connor's

parents got a last minute invite and

they show up to the party and realize

that their son is in a polyamorous

relationship and Connor's dad Mark

is like "I can't financially support

this." And they're like "You don't

financially support shit." And then

they're like "Oh except that seed money

that I gave you for your company that

you're still paying back to me on an

interestfree payment plan." Oh I would

now like it back thank you

uh is the immediate energy so Connor's

like "All right everyone in the van we

are headed back to our house like [ __ ]

this we are not right we're not staying

here but when they get back to the house

Kendall's like "Hey I'm in this with

y'all i love you too we will solve this

together like this is not something that

like we cannot overcome." But when they

are looking at the numbers the numbers

are not good while Connor's been making

regular payments they've been interest

free and there hasn't really been a set

plan in place so like it's still like a

100k oh and whatever the Australian

right equivalent well I guess it was

written so whatever the American

equivalent is of

I don't know the conversion rate at the

moment me either at times it's been in

our favor at times it has absolutely not

been in our favor yeah who can say

either way it's a lot of money either

way yeah absolutely a lot of money and

they're like okay well we don't have

enough to both uh buy Finn out and give

Mark everything back but the guys are

like Okay like Kendall's like "We could

sell the house we could like we can do

these things." And the guy's like "We're

not doing that." Kendall ends up calling

uh Barbie and Allan because Allan is the

finance guy to have him look at

everything which is also sweet cuz like

when Allan gets there and meets the guys

he's like

"You better be nice to Kendall." Yeah

like the big brother kindle's my friend

yeah like but not in a like stay away

from her but in a like treat her right

yes very much but as he's also looking

at the numbers he's like

"Are there things you are there assets

you can sell?" They're like "Well we

can't sell the tools cuz we need the

tools for the business." So like trying

to figure all of this out um and just

like it's not going super great barbie

and Allan end up leaving connor's just

like wanting to hermit and because he's

feeling very responsible for this like

Kendall's like "Hey we're not going to

focus on that anymore let me help with a

little bit of stress relief so she gives

him um my exact words are a prostate

exam handy okay yeah which was his first

experience and it sounds like it drained

him so thoroughly it was more like a

milking than an an orgasm it was just

apparently dripping and I was like all I

could think of was the Huow book

which I didn't love i was like so was

she jacking you like an udder right like

yeah okay regardless yeah it we were

having a good time yeah good times were

had stress relief was had he felt

supported sure literally and

figuratively right good good uh so they

all end up crashing the next morning Van

goes over to his parents house they were

about the rough situation they're in

with the loan that they had from Mark

and that Mark's kind of being a dick

about it and then Van's mom is like

"Hold that

thought." His mom's a bit of a hoarder

brings out a box of photos from their

parties in

damn is like "Is that Connor's mom why

are you doing this to me?" And his dad

is like "Oh god she was worse than than

her husband she could gobble down

dickling better than the red like what

is happening so Van's like "Are you

suggesting we blackmail Mark?" And his

mom's like "No no no i'm just suggesting

you like remind Mark of where he came

from

like to remind him who he

was."

Mhm so that Van is at his parents house

gage leaves to go talk to his parents

who were also at the

party he invites Finn

and his parents like Kendall's parents

over as well okay uh to all clear the

air but then also being like we all need

to like figure out a plan

and join forces to

save our business and save our

livelihood sort of energy then at the

same time Connor has gone to talk to his

parents okay so all of the guys have

left to go speak with their respective

families in the morning and Mark is

continuing to be a dick and like try to

double down on it and Connor's like "Hey

you're scared of like you your

reputation at the club if people know

your son's in a polyamorous relationship

that's not going to sink my business my

money is still green my vendors are

still paid on time." Like

no one cares if we share girls and

tradies are known gossips like people

are going like "Yeah my my reputation is

not ruined get the [ __ ] over it." Mhm we

will never speak to you again like this

is the end of our our relationship and

if this is how it's going to be we're

going to go to court and we're going to

like we'll get a formal like payment

plan written up i don't care if there's

interest that I have to pay back as well

and it's more like we'll figure it out

but like we're gonna have a formal plan

you don't just get to like right this

money was a gift and there if there was

nothing in writing then technically you

don't get to ruin my life and the life

of everyone I care about because you

don't like my choices right is

so Connor's mom is like Mark make the

agreement also don't forget you borrow

money from my dad like you're again

remember where you came from yes

1,000% remember who you came in

i didn't like it but it was low hanging

much like sex is at a tea party i was

say much like Connor's dad's balls i'm

so also while Connor is at his parents'

house and he's like having this

conversation conversation about like if

coming through so he's like

so Kendall uh gets up Gage is coming in

the house has her parents and brother in

tow they have a big clearing of the air

with the family where her dad is like I

like really didn't realize that he's

like I thought like it was like just

harmless harmless sibling rivalry and

didn't realize that like hurting it was

that hurtful but it also kind of comes

up where like Finn's like you gave as

good as as you got he's like remember

when you uh like loosened the thread in

the seat of all of my pants like like

that is also a good thing that's very

good right so and Kendall's mom's like

"Yeah everyone kind of remembers the

wrongs done against them maybe more than

Yeah their own actions here as as

well." But then Finn's like "Yeah

Cheryl's coming back and I'm in therapy

and I want to make all of this right so

I'm signing over my shares in the

company to Kindle." So now Kendall will

be 25% owner and then he'll just be an

employee for the

company okay

which I don't I I see the gesture i

don't but if you're a person with a wife

and two kids that feels like a pretty

large financial thing yeah i'm like are

you expecting them to keep paying you

the same amount right yeah i had I did

have that it's just a gesture like what

are we doing

like you know the shares aren't symbolic

right like that's not really how shares

in a company work um also

Kendall's

parents offer to buy out the loan from

Mark's parents and then they're like

"Okay so we'll set up like a payment

plan with you." They're like "No it's a

gift but like don't expect us to ever

pay for a wedding." Right

um so yeah Kendall's parents suddenly

have $100,000 to throw around casually

to just like pay off the the not I guess

not even their son but I guess their

daughter's new business which is very

kind of them since her their daughter

knows nothing about a construction

business so true yeah

some financial incentive is is going to

be beneficial there um but yeah so they

offer to pay the loan and then Finn

signs over his shares and the family all

like clears the air and then

when Finn's kind of like "Yeah

like I'll I'll do all of all the hard

jobs at work like as long as you just

like treat my sister right." And Van's

like "Well I might have disrespected

your sister but I would never disrespect

my wife i would love and honor and

cherish my wife." And she's like "Are

you proposing?" And he's like "Yeah I

am." And she's like

"Okay." So then suddenly yeah she and

Van are engaged um and then it starts to

the tone is switching to sexier and

Kendall's mom reads the room and gets

the rest of them out of the house ready

to go everyone yeah i think Kendall's

dad was like "Let's celebrate." And

Kendall's mom was like "They're about to

we are not invited to that celebration."

And nor do you want to be invited to

that celebration um

yeah so

then but parents scued can tell it's

sexy time and they're like imagine it's

our first night as a married quad then

the guys are like we'll all change our

last name to Kennedy because you So you

don't have to have like a triple

hyphenated that's a lot last name

they're like we'll all switch to your

last name

and then there's just like a I have it

written multi-chapter 20page sex scene

yeah that's a lot yeah there's like I

think there was they're building her up

to actual double penetration so it was

so later with Barbie and telling her and

So she goes to meet him and he bought

her a corner commercial space that

they're going to turn into a bakery for

her once she finishes her apprenticeship

okay but I'm like but you just started

the

apprenticeship and you said it's you're

in your first year so it's a multi-year

apprenticeship how long is it going to

take for them to renovate the space what

i have some questions yeah the logistics

don't track but again the gesture is

nice yes absolutely so that is uh Gage's

proposal essentially cuz he's like I

like didn't I didn't know what kind of

ring you'd want to wear but I like could

see

us here and this that and the other it's

very sweet and then Connor's trying to

figure out how to propose

uh and ends up deciding to get her car

fully restored because he keeps being

like "I just want to get you in a safer

car." And she's like "Well some of us

just want to take care of the things

that we already have." and he's like

"Okay maybe I see what she's implying

and what my gesture could be." So he

gets her car fully restored completely

rebuilt then also gets her a ring uh so

now she's officially engaged to all

three of them okay barbie and Kendall

are then talking through wedding plans

because Barbie's like "Okay so which one

are you marrying?" Right and Kendall's

like "What do you what do you mean?" And

she's like "Well legally right in the

eyes of the Australian

government you can only have Yeah you

can only have one on paper that's also

going to be the one that like if ever

you're in the hospital like right that's

who you list." And Kendall's like "I

can't choose." when and so perm's

like well you got to so what matters

more to you like legally in the eyes of

our government being married or like h

having a proclamation and like a

commitment ceremony to each other and so

Kendall's like oh okay that one uh so

Barbie's like it's time we pull one last

prank prank is an overstatement but I

guess like I see what they are they

throwing a surprise guys wedding well so

it's now like months down the line it's

the day of the wedding and the guys are

all wearing their tuxes but still don't

know who she's legally marrying so they

get to the wedding and they're like

"Who's she going to choose?" Like "It's

okay whoever it is." Like right we get

it yeah well like Connor's freaking out

to the point where Gage is like "It's

going to be you man." Like we already

like talked yeah and so they're all

waiting at the altar for her and when

she like gets down the altar she's like

"I can't marry you today because I think

you have to start things how you want to

see them through." And so I don't know

some Yeah yeah yeah some flowery weird

[ __ ] yeah i don't know why I just made

that you did she's good she did the

jerkoff motion completely did the jerk

with my left hand my non-dominant hand

i'm like the two women who've been

married for more than seven years were

like "Yeah okay." Flowery [ __ ] blah blah

blah okay all right very romantic yeah

so she's like "Everyone follow me

outside." So like everyone gets up and

walks out and then she's like "Surprise

it's a commitment

ceremony let's let's party." And then

they're all happy and then eight years

later they have kids and she has a

bakery and they're thriving

and everyone gets their happily ever

after and that's how it ends well I'm

glad for them yeah

overall thoroughly enjoyed very fun and

very funny read

like was laughing very hard at at

several points and I think there were

moments where I just went

"Huh maybe there are just things about

Australia I don't

understand you know I don't get the

culture." It's okay i don't get the c

You know what I don't get about

Australia they have time zones that have

halfhour differences really for a very

short amount of time i was talking to a

guy who lived in Cber and he was like 12

and a half hours behind me that is very

confusing yeah i don't get that about

the culture all on that yeah yeah so

there were some things that I was just

like you know we're just going to

casually

overlook it makes no sense for Kendall

to suddenly be the co-owner of this

construction business yeah it doesn't

really with her brother as an employee

but like I see where we were going well

and if there was financial concern it

doesn't make sense that they would buy

her a whole bakery to sit empty

yeah well also I was like well well cuz

I was like how long is she in the

apprenticeship how long is this all all

of this going to take and then also like

a yes day at William Sonoma ain't cheap

right and they bought her she couldn't

decide between the purple cookwware or

the green cookware set so they bought

her both the full set oh and then

they're like and it took a couple extra

hours for

what

like if you were just going "Okay we you

can just walk that shop and pick which

one you want in your yes date that will

not take me that many hours." No it will

take that much money so I'm like so like

the men are clearly like doing well

enough right also one would hope because

you co-own a bit a construction company

and your three roommates right like and

you built your house yeah like you know

it's a cute story the logistics and the

details matter less than the story
